Making the Vision a Reality: Living Well in Corpus Christi
Mayor’s Fitness Council Launches Its "Wellness Event & Program Partnership"
An Initiative to Incorporate Healthy Choices in Community Activities
Are you planning a community event or program and going through your checklist? Venue, check. Permits, check. Staffing or volunteers, check. Registration, check. The Mayor’s Fitness Council wants you to add one more item to your list, the "‘MFC Wellness Partners."
The "Wellness Event & Program Partnership" is offered for agencies and organizations that host and/or coordinate events or programs that promote overall health and wellness for residents and the entire community. This program will help create an environment in our community’s earnest efforts to combat chronic disease and move us all to live well with health bodies.
“If we are going to improve the overall health of our community we have to create an environment of health. By encouraging coordinators to integrate physical fitness, good nutrition into and ban tobacco use at their events, the Mayor’s Fitness Council hopes to help create that healthy environment,” said Stacie Talbert, Assistant Director of the Parks & Recreation Department.
You may be pondering the question, “Why would this be something that your agency should strive to do as you develop your programs or events?”
Mayor Nelda Martinez encouraged, “Living healthy is something we all need to do together. This is an opportunity for your organization to help our community move towards healthy living while gaining an additional outlet for promotion and support for your event or program.”
For Corpus Christi to be deemed a healthy city, every agency and organization is encouraged to be part of this collective effort. Let’s get started!
The partnership program has three tiers; Advantage Partnership; Core Partnership; Active Partnership.
